At the New English School, we believe that physical education is an integral component of a students overall education. We implement a rigorous physical education curriculum which promotes and reinforces the learning and development of skills. We believe in diversity, giving students as many sporting opportunities as possible, wherever possible. We believe that each student should realise the importance of a healthy lifestyle and actively promote the ideals of ‘Sport for Life’.

Through physical education, our students;

• Acquire essential movement skills and confidence to participate in a variety of life-long

   physical activities
• Develop an understanding and appreciation of the importance of an active, healthy, and safety

   conscious lifestyle
• Develop important social skills including conflict resolution
• Develop respect for self and others
• Will achieve a fundamental level of fitness and an understanding of how to enhance it.

In the lower school, we continue to develop areas that have been developed in the Primary School, with an increased focus on health-related fitness, specific movement and motor skills as well as an introduction to sports-related strategies and an increased emphasis on sportsmanship. Our physical education program culminates at the Upper school level, as we offer a wide variety of activities that focus on skills, strategies and tactics while emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship. We also promote the development of physical fitness, social interaction, leadership and the knowledge that will enable our students to make choices and participate with confidence in a variety of physical activities throughout their lives.

To supplement the physical education curriculum, our students take part in both local and International competitions. We compete locally in the ISACK league and regularly compete in the BSME (British Schools of the Middle East) games. Although we are one of the most successful schools in Kuwait, participation, not winning, is our primary focus. Unlike any other school in Kuwait, for every competitive sport that is on offer, we run a recreational activity along side it, to ensure that our students have access to as many sporting opportunities as possible.
