ImageIntroduction

At the New English School, our primary purpose is for you to be educated to the best standard possible. To do this effectively, we need the school to run smoothly and this relies on the good will, good sense and self-discipline of the students. We believe that a successful, safe and happy school is built upon a spirit of trust and co-operation and that self-respect and respect for others go hand in hand.

The school community is a large group of people from over sixty countries and of various backgrounds. Education in school must take place in the best environment possible. However, the school is not just a place of work; it ought also to be a pleasant environment in which students enjoy good relationships with their peers and teachers, in which they push themselves and gain pleasure from their work and through recreational activities benefit from and contribute to the school community. The rules and guidelines contained in this document are drawn up with this ethos in mind.

Certain obligations of good behaviour, of honesty, fairness and politeness are thus laid upon staff and students alike. A high standard of professional conduct is expected from teaching and non-teaching staff while students are expected to behave co-operatively and to consider not only their own needs and wishes but those of all members of the school community. Refusal to behave in a way consistent with the fundamental values of the school is not a right of any student since it breaks the spirit of co-operation mentioned above.

Partnership with ParentsImage
To be successful, schools and parents need to work in partnership for the good of all students. Both parents and schools have a powerful effect on young people’s behaviour: we, therefore, trust that parents will support the values of the school. The next part of this document expresses the values which support the ethos of the school.

Parents have the responsibility to ensure that students attend school, that they arrive in school on time, wear correct school uniform and bring with them any necessary books or equipment. The school also hopes that parents will take an active role in checking homework and following up teachers’ comments on a student’s work or behaviour by checking and signing the homework diary each week.
