Music has always played a central role in the Infant department at NES. Students cover all areas of the national curriculum in a setting that fosters creativity and confidence. The schemes of work are taught through singing, playing instruments, movement activities and games. A cross-curricular approach is used to further the child’s understanding and application of concepts taught in other areas of the curriculum.
The Infant Music Department provides activities that allow the student to explore their own thoughts and feelings through responding physically, intellectually and emotionally to a variety of music from different times and cultures. The programme aids in developing social skills through cooperation with others and an understanding of music as a valuable means of communication.
The students have many opportunities to demonstrate their musical talent throughout the year. We have school choirs that not only enable children to enjoy singing together, but also prepare them for public performances.
The annual spring KG concert is entirely music based and the department takes an active role in the National Day celebrations.
Music plays an integral role in weekly assemblies. Children are taught whole school songs as well as songs that are unique to their individual class.
The music programme is a vibrant, exciting and an essential part of the student’s education and life at NES.
